lucky numbers

Hello friends.

What have I been doing the last week, you ask?  A lot of listening.  The Western Canadian Music Awards are coming up and as a member of my province's music association, Sask Music, I get to vote.  It's the first time I've ever cast a vote for an event like this.  Let me tell you, it's way more fun than researching which political candidate I should vote for.

So I've been hanging around my apartment painting the walls a shade of robin's egg blue and listening.  It's such a great opportunity to discover music or hear new albums from bands I already love.  My favourite of all is Jim Byrnes.  Beautiful!

Though that Dan Mangan... I just can't stop listening.

But also!  I've been hanging with my fella singing harmonies and playing every instrument we own (and have begged and borrowed) in preparation for a show we're doing tomorrow night.

Somehow my lucky number came up and I was asked to play at the Steeplejack festival in Herbert, Saskatchewan.  The venue, which is an old church, has been saved from likely destruction by Pat Donnelly of Montreal (formerly a prairie girl, like me).  Once a year she holds a concert series that provides revenue to keep the heritage building alive.  The church has no power and so it will be totally acoustic.  Michael borrowed a banjo on Sunday and he's like freaking Rainman with the thing.   I'm really excited.

If you want more info, you can find it here along with a sweet little article from the Swift Current Prairie Post.

But seriously.  Check out that Dan Mangan.
