he got it wrong.
The answer to life, the universe and everything isn't 42.
It's 25.
Have you heard of the Pomodoro Technique®? (Don't even click on that link. I'll tell you all you need to know!)
Set a timer for 25 minutes. Work until the timer rings. Set timer for five minutes and take a break. Repeat, repeat, and then repeat with a ten minute break.
Repeat all four steps until you feel satisfied with yourself.
Sometimes in my breaks I make tea. Sometimes I do the dishes (or as many as five minutes will allow). Sometimes I have raucous one-woman Black Keys dance parties. Sometimes I sweep the floor and think of George Harrison and how that one line in While My Guitar Gently Weeps has always stuck in my craw.
But I always get shit done. The trick is to take a break.
I've written grants, songs, booked tours, achieved inbox zero (Another geeky work habit, but with awards!), etc, etc, etc, with my little tomato friend. This very blog post is my fifth pomodoro this morning.
There's even a handy dandy app. Big surprise. It's what I use. You can make the robot voice say whatever you like. Mine says, "Get out of your chair dum-dum. I mean it!"
So you see, dear reader, the answer is indeed 25.
